Amaechi Okafor: ON BENDED KNEES. I remember the 1980s with childhood vividity. As a little boy I used to roam the streets without fear of any sort.We traversed the night in search of snails with only the mythical stories of ghost to instill a little reservoir of fear in us.We would go into the deepest forest in search of the Icheku fruit without the dread of kidnappers.You would actually be happy to accept a holiday to a relative living in any part of the country.Sadly,those days are gone. Today we see a country where because of the fear of insecurity,children are thoroughly locked up and kept in the confinements of their apartments.The only source of entertainment the cable networks and video games.The country has been subdued by a wide spread feeling of fear because of the persistent drop in the value of human lives.In the north,people have been slaughtered daily without any signs of it coming to an end.To the na?ve,it is no more news.I am often filled with awe when I peep into my siblings mobile phone when he is browsing.He generally skips the news about the bombings in the north.To him it just isnt news anymore.His na?ve mind cannot allow him to understand that the lives lost through those bombings are just as precious as his. As we still have that to contend with another plague strikes.The ebola virus.It has filtered into our borders and is now recording deaths.As of today,it was said that six cases of the virus has been sited and two deaths has been recorded.Nobody knows the rate of physical interaction the infected people has had with the people around them. All these I pondered during my pensive mood and came to the conclusion that we really need to get to our knees in humble suplication to God.We cant sit still and believe that we are in a comfort zone.Bornu was once a comfort zone for dwellers,but at how dreaded it is now.Those in Abuja thought they were in their comfort zones until the Nyanya bombings.No zone is a comfort zone in a nation hit with crisis. With this I look upon the Lord whose grace and infinite mercy is the only thing that can see us through.Oh Lord,I plead that You come and put a stop to the pain and death in our country.Father,we implore that You allow your wind of peace and life to blow over our country.The great I AM,look upon the lamentation of your people.Look at the deaths.Father forgive us our sins and do have mercy on us.The Lord Host,I know that their are millions of other hearts that are supplicating to You at this hour.Jehovah,we collectively ask that You heal the land.Answer us Father for we are ON BENDED KNEES.
