You will see him as the bigger man with a big beard. He is the one goofing off in the middle of the video.. The raccoon was grandpas raccoon and its name was Racket. Racket loved vanilla wafers. I learned the hard way to be back far enough so that he could not reach you when you ran out of wafers. He bit a big chuck out of my leg because I ran out. Grandpa did the maintenance on the wagons over the trail from Missouri to Oregon. As a small child I have some but little bits of memory when we meant grandpa at the end of the travel. Our mothers had lunches and set us under trees for shade while we eat our lunch. We watched the people dressed in wagoneering clothing. My brothers and I were lucky enough to have grandpa live with us the last year of his life. He had one of the wagons and some horses. I think they were Shelties or something like that. The horses looked like small Clydesdales. He also had Shetland ponies we rode. The bigger horses were very gentle and we could walk under them. If they raised a foot to rid themselves of flies you just hoped they did not hit you with the foot or step on your foot. Grandpa would hitch up the horses to give the grandchildren and neighbor kids rides in the wagon. Grandpa loved his grandchildren. He and Grandma Maude had 12 children. Each child had 2 to 4 children. Plenty of grandchildren to keep grandpa busy but he never got over missing grandma. Grandma died in 1952. He pasted away at 62 from heart related issues, out in a field on a tractor. He loved to run the tractor.
