Amazing rains here in Berkeley tonight, certainly wasnt expecting anything this intense, and even some rarely seen lightening and thunder. Unfortunately, it means I wont be planting at the job site tomorrow, its just going to be a muddy mess tomorrow. Fortunately we did manage to get all the holes dug today, so planting will go fast. Got the 15 foot tall Strelitzia nicholai 24 box planted, and it makes some instant impact at the top of Marin Ave. Took some muscle with just the 3 of us to muscle it in up a steep slope and no power equipment, doing it old school style. Waiting to get ahold of the Bauhinia x blakeana to finish with the trees, along with some Daslyrion longissima, Agave ovatifolia, Euphorbia xantii, Agave Blue Glow. Still debating whether to pop in a couple of 1 gallon Eucalyptus woodwardii for future impact, (never planted them before), or stick with some faster growing Ceanothus Dark Star or Psoralea pinnata for more small vertical flowering accents. Gave up on the idea of squeezing in 2-5 gallon double Brahea armata; truely there just isnt any more room. This whole design has been kind of stream of consciousness with no precise plan, but inspiration while nursery shopping.
