Amazing story/footage of wild transient orcas near Newfoundland: Re-posting this incredible video and sighting from Grant Cudmore, of orcas in Newfoundland! Let me tell you guys a little story. I am from Twillingate Newfoundland Canada. On July 29th I was running a tour, I looked to the horizon and saw those amazing Black Fins. They came over to say hello then went on, about 10 min later I saw a commotion, they had a young minke whale. I didnt want to get in the way so stayed about 500 m away and filmed with my telephoto. I continued to keep my distance, every now and then they would come over and say hello and go back to feeding. I had heard they stash there prey for future feeding like jaguars or bears so I thought I might see them again. On August 2nd the Twillingate Harbour was filled about 20-25 orcas from different pods, seemed again to be feeding. The group I witnessed make the kill was also there. Then Something amazing happened. The Matriarch brought over the jaw of the whale it killed and dropped it by the boat. I didnt know what to think of this. but have one theory. Orcas are predators, predators power structure determines what a member eats. The best food (tongue, liver) go to the heads and the less attractive parts to lower downs. The Jaw and baleen seem to be the least attractive and by gifting that to us, I believe the Orca was putting us in our place, not in an aggressive sense, we simply were put in our place the way nature intended. Not through violence or coercion but rather dominance and social structure In this vid you can see some misc footage of Dolphin and Orca, the hunt and some of the under water footage. Note in the shot of them swimming under the boat, flesh hanging from ones jaw. The last shot is the Orca gift.......Enjoy https://vimeo/85993475
