Amazon research project plans are finally solidified! Going down to Shuar territory near the proposed location of the largest mining operation in South America to see how local people perceive the risks/benefits of industrial mining, hopefully will find someway to do a GIIP project about using tech. to adapt to the health hazards of the ridiculous amount of chemicals that contaminate places like these. I dont even want to know how many hours Ive spent in proposal-writing mode...office hours are SO IMPORTANT to opening the door to doing stuff like this, UCSC has so much money to support similar projects... Ill be gone 6/20-9/20, if anyone has any recommendations for preparing for gnarly humidity/heat/bacteria/bugs/etc. Id be stoked to hear em! salon/2013/02/10/to_get_the_gold_they_will_have_to_kill_every_one_of_us/
