Ambassador Reyes graces formal chartering of the Knights of Rizal- Rome Chapter On 10 August 2013, Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. was guest of honor and speaker during the formal chartering ceremony of the Knights of Rizal-Rome Chapter, dubbing of its new members, and induction of its first set of officers. The Knights of Rizal Supreme Council, was represented by Sir Lino Paras, KGCR (Overall Adviser for Europe) and Sir Tony Guansing, KGOR (Former Regional Commander for Europe), assisted by the following European Chapter Commanders: Sir Mario Fajardo, KCR (Charleroi Chapter Belgium), Sir Generoso Rebong, KCR (Aalst Chapter Belgium), Sir Emerson Malapitan, KCR (Modena Chapter Italy), Sir Jayson Padilla, KCR (Cote D’Azur Chapter France). Reputable members of the Filipino community in Italy were welcomed into the fold of the Knights of Rizal- Rome Chapter, namely: Sir Romulo Salvador (Council President of migrant councilors representing Filipinos in the City Council Rome), Sir Joselito Rebong (Owner/Proprietor of Pinoy Cargo- Rome), Sir Carmelo Calzado (Vice President of BPI-Rome), Sir Augusto Cruz (Secretary General of the Federation of Filipino Communities and Association in Rome), Sir Joselito Viray (Coordinator of the San Filippo Apostolo Filipino Community and former Vice President of the Philippine Independence Day Association), Sir Diego Evangelista (Rome Correspondent of ABSCBN News), Sir Ferdinand Villones (Rome Correspondent of GMA News), Sir Judito Estopacia (President of the Philippine Independence Day Association). The ceremony was witnessed by officers and staff of the Embassy, members of the Knights of Rizal chapters in Europe, and representatives of the Filipino community in Italy. Ambassador Reyes congratulated the new members and officers of Knights of Rizal- Rome Chapter. He called on them to emulate Dr. Rizal as his life serves as a model of how modern-day Filipinos can realize the ideals espoused by our national hero. He likewise spoke of how the Knights of Rizal in Italy can initiate a change for the better and influence policies in Italy. The founding members of the Knights of Rizal-Rome Chapter previously dubbed during a ceremony on 19 June 2013, the 152nd birth anniversary of Jose Rizal are: Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr., Vice Consul Jarie R. Osias, Philippine Honorary Consul to Reggio Calabria Domenico Marciano, Professor Salvatore Olivari de la Moneda, and Dr. Lorenzo Pecchi. The Order of the Knights of Rizal is a “civic and patriotic organization recognized by law as an instrumentality by which the teachings of our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal may be propagated among the Filipino people, and others who may believe in his teachings to the end that they may emulate and follow his examples”. It is also a civic and patriotic organization as well as a cultural, non-sectarian, non-partisan, and non-racial organization.
