Ambulance..!! 1898 లో ..!! One of the "ambulance" used during Bangalore plague in 1898.. Notice the barrel on which the person is sitting. Such a barrel would come from Britain and they would contain fluids of medicinal value. Some of you might have read that Bangalore was hit by a plague epedimic in 1898 which spread quickly due to severe congestion within the old city (the present avenue rd, chickpet area etc). The British took quick measures by plying such ambulances and treating victims. They also took up the initiative of improving sanitation, lying telephone lines, building hospitals and decongesting the city by forming new layouts which led to formation of Malleshwaram, Basavangudi & Chamrajpet.
