America, America, I don’t love you anymore I feel just like a man who found out he’d married a whore America, America, please say it isn’t true I fell in love with your ideals but not with what you do America, America, you feed us many lies Your document states for the people and by the people yet it’s us that you despise America, America, when will you set us free? When will we see the truth of our own history? America, America, your foundation is covered in blood When will the wrath of God cover this nation in his flood? America, America, I know not where I am from… A citizen of this land, but an alien in this slum America, America, you lie sleeping in the dirt Eyes closed to reality, too afraid of getting hurt America, America, when will your people arise? When will we all stand united as allies? America, America stop spreading so much hate Stop selling misconceptions and causing vile debate America, America, please open your blinded eyes, take flight What’s hidden in the darkness will always come to light America, America I used to believe in you I fell in love with your ideals but not with what you do America, America, please save my dying hope Blood on your policemans hands, I’m finding it hard to cope America, America, you used to be a dream Now I recognize the lies, you are not what you seem America, America, you make plenty of opportunists But draw loops in and around the laws just like some bold cartoonists America, America, I used to call you great Way before I learned of what it meant for those to hate America, America, can you see us in the world’s eyes? Do you understand their lack of respect or why it’s us that they despise? America, America, why do you blindly follow? Do you not see your leaders hearts are hollow? America, America, what do we represent? In school we learned of how our ancestors were not just chosen but sent America, America, we call this the land of the free Yet we have more men in prison than any other country in history America, America, slavery is still alive Within every prison’s walls it does thrive America, America, can you not stand the truth? There’s plenty of factual evidence, will you not accept it’s proof? America, America, I fear we shall fall And if we do, it will be the fault of us all America, America, you have too many ideas But not many of you recognize what the lie is America, America, you’re just a corporation You’re all enslaved to a system, thriving off the working population Work, work, work, but you never get to rest And the top 1% slurp, slurp, slurp on everything you possess Take, take, take but they never give it back Good luck when you get old and social security they may lack America, America, your votes don’t truly count The elections are bought and sold, you just make it look like it counts America, America, when will you stand up against tyranny? When will you recognize truth and not push it off as a conspiracy… theory…. Hear ye, Hear ye, all ye troubled fools They use your body counts in their box of tools “America, America, just shut up, play by the rules” “You really matter to us all, we care about your schools!” Education and the lack thereof is used as ample segregation And class is not an illusion but a clarifying demonstration Of the rich versus the poor and the white versus the black But poverty overrules many so many refuse to face these facts They say it has nothing to do with race, but clearly feel they have a place Notice those who say it is and who say it isn’t then tell me I’m displaced? If you cannot see history, I think you should take some lessons Instead of filling up on bullshit and lies and continually just guessin’ I think it’s time to look way back in books they don’t provide Hey why not question deep within, the truth, it dwells inside If God created us all as equals and this is the truth we uphold Then why does history repeat in sequels and we don’t do as we’re told The French and American revolutions were birthed out of deep oppression Yet we live with fellow Americans in 2014 going through the same thing, that’s digression And I’m not just guessing when I see black boys and men getting shot down like Mike Brown That they are being targeted and murdered, left bleeding to die there on the ground I am no dummy, and I am no fool I see this all clearly, I didn’t learn this in my school These are life’s lessons, and my skin is not black But I don’t need dark pigment to be human and fight back I stand with my brothers and sisters, every person in this nation For this is the land of the Free, called America, and we’re taking back this nation If we want change, we must first start with ourselves My suggestion to every person reading is to start mining bookshelves God Bless America and Truly set us free Forgive those who are blind, please help them Lord to see ~Lyrical Gymnast~ © 2014
