American White Pelicans in Lockport. Problems arise for those - TopicsExpress

American White Pelicans in Lockport. Problems arise for those birds forever their reason, they refuse to migrate south to warmer climates. I captured these images today, in fact I captured them at approximately 11 am. There are 6 pelicans in total. All seemed perfectly healthy up until a day or two ago. Now a major problem (unforeseen by them) has now arisen. ICE build up on the wings of at least two of the six pelicans has now developed. This will certainly lead to death in the coming days. Death by starvation. The Red is now freezing over, which simply translates into no food source for these birds. At this time Im not sure what course of action should be taken. Realistically theres isnt a whole lot that can be done for the pelicans who can no longer fly. I will continue to monitor the situation. If it seems that no solution can be found, I see little choice but to make the call to the local DNR office in Selkirk. Once that call is made, the DNR officers will have little choice but to dispatch the ice burdened birds. The last thing I want is to see these majestic birds die a slow, miserable death due to starvation. Anyone else have a better solution? If so, lets hear it!
