Americans are living longer than they used to and living with better health, according to a new study. But among 34 developed countries measured for life expectancy, the U.S. dropped from 18 to 27th place. The other notable result of this study is that in some poor areas of the U.S., life expectancy is on a par with that in Bangladesh and Algeria, while wealthier areas of the country have a life expectancy equal to that in Japan and Switzerland.
