Amid reports that constitutional lawyer Lovemore Madhuku has filed - TopicsExpress

Amid reports that constitutional lawyer Lovemore Madhuku has filed objections to Justice Minister Emmerson Mnangagwas appointment as vice president, the announcement of his choice by President Mugabe has left Zimbabweans resigned to a future of even worse corruption and economic chaos than under Mugabe. Meanwhile Ngwena himself has been giving interviews to VOA like someone who has already been sworn into office, pledging to assist President Mugabe with implementation of ZimAsset and denying any enmity with fired President Joice Mujuru, though he said she must answer to the allegations against her. Despite being responsible for the CIO when it directed the operations of the Korean Trained Five Brigade which massacred an estimated 20 000 villagers, and being reputed to have directed the operations of the security chiefs in keeping Mugabe in power after he had lost the 2008 election, Munangagwa told Sandra Nyayira of VOA that those who feared him were not honest people. He said his nickname Ngwena emanated from his part in the first group of trained liberation combatants to graduate in China and who were deployed in 1964. He is of the Murambwi totem (Shumba) from Chivi and joined the liberation war at age 19. Mnangwa’s ideas on the economy also give Zimbabweans no confidence in the future as he seemed to accept no responsibility for his party’s failures in anything - blaming the British for the Lancaster House agreement which delayed distribution of land for 10 years and sanctions which he claims stagnated the economy. Now Zanu (PF) is aiming to improve agriculture on the distributed land and to exploit mineral resources “without looking to outsiders,” and as sanctions are gradually being lifted, the future looks bright, if only Zimbabweans remain united, according to him. Meanwhile Zimbabweans blame the ruling Zanu (PF) for having taken a perfectly good country and ruined it while its officials corruptly enriched themselves, and alienated the Western countries that had done the most to help the new Zimbabwe with development assistance and finance which kept a vibrant industry employing the population and the public sector well-funded with corporate taxes. Mnangagwa was part of the same Cabinet appointed by Mugabe 34 years ago which presided over reducing the same economy to the second poorest country in the world - not because of any sanctions, but because Zanu (PF) thought the only way it could keep itself in power was to bribe the population with income that was not earned and maintaining an overvalued currency, compounded by a bureaucracy with an insatiable desire for luxury. When it became unsustainable and an opposition arose in the form of the MDC they beat, tortured and killed its activists and rigged elections leading to sanctions by democratic Western countries, to which they responded by taking Zimbabwe out of the club of civilised countries in into the “axis of evil.” Now their true nature has been exposed; Mugabe a desperate dictator who is now under the thumb of his wife, but who could no longer resist the scheming of Mnangagwa who, if Mugabe is to be believed, escaped an assassination plot yesterday, presumably by the same forces within ZANU (PF) which have voiced their opposition to his appointment; and Zanu (PF) itself a lynch-mob that can be manipulated by anyone who can hire a bus and print posters. By today we will know whether the application by Madhuku has succeeded in delaying the rise of the Ngwena - a delay which might give Zimbabweans a moment to ponder about where Zanu (PF) is taking this country.
