"Amid the frenzy that the crying cop created, there is someone in Malacañang smiling. Somehow, the crying cop provided a momentary cop-out for his lackluster record in addressing the country’s unemployment woes and bleak human rights record. Was there really any mention of the Maguindanao massacre in the fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA)? Did the President address the 632,000-strong non-unionized workforce of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in his speech? Was there really a concrete blueprint to address the rising joblessness in the country, which has hardly budged from the 3-million mark as government data? How will workers cope with MRT and LRT fare hikes as well increases in Social Security System (SSS) contributions when their wages remain meager? Did it ever occur to you at all that the President’s time for audio-visual presentation could have been used to tackle cybercrime law and freedom of information (FOI) bill? When we stop asking socially relevant questions and just keep falling for social media spectacles, that is something worth crying."
