Among English-speaking professional philosophers, religious belief is pretty rare, at about 14% believing in some kind of deity. Among members of the National Academy of Sciences, religious belief is even more rare at only about 7%. While nothing definitely follows about the truth of a belief from what the majority of philosophers or scientists think; when the vast majority of the worlds smartest people are saying that belief in a deity is a silly fairy tale, its difficult to escape the conclusion that those who believe in a deity are simply not the brightest bulbs.
