Among the top 350 American corporations, the salary ratio of CEO-to-worker went from 18-to-1 in 1965 to 201-to-1 in 2013. And this should hardly come as a surprise; while wages for working people at these corporations were stagnant, the compensation packages for the top executives rose 13% in the last year alone to reach an average of $14.1 million. (Source: Economic Policy Institute.) Moreover, according to a study published in the December 2013 issue of interfaces, (a peer-reviewed journal), these ultra-high levels of pay for CEOs may actually harm the performance of the corporations over which they preside. These injustices (and many more) are brought to you by capitalism.
