Amongst my Facebook friends, who are quiet proficient in Bengali including Abhijit Da and Saswata, I have a quick question. A couple of them, rather. Yesterday was our independence day. Everywhere Jana Gana Mana, our national Anthem was being played. I listened to it on TV too, and since then I was wondering, why do we keep referring to a Adhinayaka when clearly we have a motherland and not a fatherland? Similarly, why do we sing in a 3rd person saying Bharata Bhagya Bidhata, and whom are we referring to thus? We are clearly not referring to India here, so whom are we referring to? Ill give a chocolate to anyone who answers these to my satisfaction (with logic).
