Amritsar residents murder in US : Amarinder writes to Sushma Swaraj for bringing back body Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today wrote to the External Affairs Minister Ms Sushma Swaraj seeking her urgent attention for the transportation of the body of Rajinder Kumar Sharma, an Amritsar resident, who was shot dead in the US on Wednesday last. In his letter to Ms Swaraj, copies of which were sent to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Defence Minister Arun Jaitely, Capt Amarinder said, the family was suffering as it had no clue as how to get the body back for the cremation and other necessary rituals. Rajinder Sharma who was working in a gas station was shot dead while on duty. He belonged to Khandwala, in Chheharta area of Amritsar and was working in the US for about last three years. The Amritsar MP urged Ms Swaraj to direct the Indian embassy in the US to make the necessary arrangements so that the body could be transported to India at the earliest. “You can well imagine the tragedy and the trauma of the family which has lost its member in most tragic circumstances and are being made to wait indefinitely for the return of the body”, he wrote in the letter while hoping that urgent initiative will be taken. Capt Amarinder regretted that none of the government officials had contacted the family so far. “We need to treat our citizens working in different parts of the world more respectfully and also respect the sentiments of their family members in their hour of grief”, he said, while adding, the embassy staff should also be told to handle such matters with care and urgency.
