An A4 stripped bare! London & North Eastern Railway Class A4 4-6-2 No.4489 Dominion of Canada returned to the UK in 2012 for a 2-year period to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the world record-breaking steam run of classmate No.4468 Mallard, and is graphically seen here stripped of its paint in preparation for re-restoration to authentic LNER Garter Blue and pre-World War II condition. Originally donated to the Canadian Railroad Historical Association by British Railways in May 1966 as No.60010 in late BR green livery and number, while in the UK Dominion of Canada has been restored to its original Coronation livery of LNER Garter Blue with her original number 4489, complete with side valances (covering most of the valve-gear), a single chimney, and stainless chrome trim, lettering and numbering. She was also refitted with a Canadian-style chime whistle and the commemorative bell that was originally removed when it was fitted with a double chimney and sent with the locomotive to Canada. The locomotive is due to return to Canada during May 2014.
