An Alternate View Musings Of Concerned Veterans: We have seen the clamour of so many for just that additional buck, called the OROP, and have felt sad. What have we come to?. Over a period of time, the actions by some of us, have brought in a sense of belittlement for most of us. We are getting adversely affected by a few, who are possibly chasing their own political/other ambitions. These worthies are sparing no institution in the Government, who could stand with us & talk in our favour. The highest and the lowest are,as if a fair game, purely in the name of the OROP. While it is the legitimate expectation of the defence personnel/veterans to get the long overdue OROP, by making so much of noise, we have given the society at large to understand, that OROP is the ultimate demand of the Services people/ Veterans and if met, all their aspirations will be fulfilled. Truthfully, it affects a small section of the veterans. Why cant we just let it be and let it happen, if it has to happen? Casual discussion with any friend leads only to this topic,as if it was a panacea and with its coming,, all our personal problems will also get resolved. Why dont we remember that Money is never enough!. This clamouring has also brought in another trend in the Veterans, where they have started writing in the Social Media, adversely on any topic connected with the Services. Expectations when raised to such unwarranted high levels,is giving avoidable depressions to many and it is really because a few of us refuse to just fade away. Do we see a similar clamour from any other Service like the civil services? Do we ever know anything about them, while all our worthies are always rushing to the nearest TV studio to give opinions on everything under the sun? Do we ever see them pointing any fingers at their own, while we are always standing hands raised, washing our dirty linen in public? Like them, our emphasis should have been on rehabilitation after such early retirement. Our goals needed better definition. We joined the Services of our own free will and served to the best of our ability. Services never need the Royalty or the Elite. Physically fit and mentally robust young people from all walks of life get trained and become great soldiers and leaders. Let us please maintain the pride in ourselves and stop the clamour! Let us please use tact in all our future dealings. Let us please not show that we are greedy. Let us define our long term goals correctly and more than anything else, Let us please, remain honourable in our own eyes!!! NB:- This alternate view is relevant to the current issues. This article is based on a narration by a three star rank officer. Narration by a warrant rank officer is also included here. These are personal views of the people whose names are being withheld.
