An Alumni Association email just popped up...hummmm, what could it be? The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with the Kennesaw State Department of Athletics, announced Thursday afternoon that the Buccaneers and Owls will play football in the inaugural game for both programs on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at Kermit Tipton Stadium/Steve Spurrier Field on the campus of Science Hill High School. Kickoff on Sept. 3, 2015 is currently scheduled for 7:30 p.m. During a press conference at the Millennium Center, ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland, ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Richard Sander and ETSU Head Football Coach Carl Torbush were joined by Kennesaw State Director of Athletics Vaughn Williams and KSU Head Football Coach Brian Bohannon to make the announcement. This is a historic day and this game will be a historic event, Sander said. There is a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm surrounding ETSU, our athletic department, and this football program. Todays announcement now gives us a date to look toward, and our expectation is a sellout crowd. We encourage our fans to become members of the Kickoff Fund and secure their season tickets, because we believe that will be the only way to assure your seats in the stadium that day. After ticket allotments are distributed for Kennesaw State, ETSU students, and other commitments, Sander said there will be approximately 5,000 seats remaining for purchase by fans and supporters. For ticket information, fans can visit ETSUBucs and click on the ticket link, or call the ETSU ticket office at 423-439-3878. Torbush said it is a unique opportunity to have two programs playing their inaugural game. This doesnt happen every day - and possibly has never happened, Torbush said. This will be a game thats highly anticipated by both schools and their fans, so when Sept. 3, 2015 finally gets here Im sure the atmosphere in the stadium will be unbelievable with a sell-out crowd and hopefully the first college game of the 2015 season. As a coach, its exciting to provide an opportunity for these student-athletes to be part of something historic like starting a new program - and this game is just another part of that process.
