An Amazing Comeback Story Michigan has come a long way in three years under Gov. Rick Snyder and with GOP control of the legislature. They ended a lost decade of economic failure, and now the state is growing again. They have moved from the very bottom of most economic measures to being the nation’s sixth fastest-growing state last year. The GOP record includes: • The job killing Michigan Business Tax was repealed. • They also eliminated the personal property tax. • They are now a Right to Work state. • They created the Office of Regulatory Reinvention to make it easier to conduct and attract business. Over 1000 rules have been abolished. • They stopped the double taxation of small businesses and passed workers’ compensation reform. Business costs have come down significantly. • They enacted three balanced budgets ahead of schedule. Three years in a row. • They helped create over 200,000 new good jobs at good wages. • Personal income has grown 3.4%. • They are now fourth in the nation for new capital investment projects. • The Big Three automakers are enthusiastic about the changes, and it has encouraged them to stay and expand. • They confronted the financial crisis in Detroit where desperately needed reforms are finally being implemented. • The Chamber of Commerce says they have completely changed the landscape for Michigan when it comes to competitiveness with other states. • Gov. Snyder is seeking re-election with the theme “efficient, effective and accountable government,” but his real message is "We said it and we did it."
