An Anniversary of a Fantastic Cause It has been already 12 months since Ben, Shauna and John pushed the button to officially launch the charity Climbers Against Cancer. A huge success due of course to CAC founders but also to the entire climbing community. Today, lots of climbers from all corners of the globe are wearing the colourful t-shirts, the comfortable hoodies and the iron-on patches. Many walls now display the much discussed 2014 calendar, and the fabulous CAC climbing holds have appeared in many gyms, and even at the Boulder World Cups in Toronto and Vail. On an international scale, climbers of all abilities have talked about the cause on their blogs and shared their passion to help others through both word of mouth and via their websites. Competitions and fundraising events in support of CAC have taken place at many venues on many continents, with the backing of the local authorities and in many cases National Federations. The International Federation of Sport Climbing has also added their weight to the cause. In just 12 months Climbers Against Cancer has raised almost €230,000 (Euro), $315,000 (USD) or an amazing 32,000,000 if converted to Japanese Yen! Most importantly, £30,000 has already been donated to cancer research facilities at locations in Australia, France and Canada (£10,000 to each nominated body) with many more donations planned for the coming competition season. Approximately £70,000 has been used to purchase the t-shirts, pay for the printing and embroidery along with the postage. This weekend John traveled to Munich, Germany to collect a ‘Winners’ award for social awareness at the ISPO event. This comes on the back of the announcement that one of the largest outdoor magazines in the USA - Climbing Magazine - has awarded the charity a ‘Golden Piton’ for 2014. To follow on from both of those amazing commendations, John has also been invited to give a presentation on behalf of Climbers Against Cancer to the delegates at this years IFSC Plenary Assembly in Paris on 1 March 2014. Congratulation to the outstanding CAC Team! climbersagainstcancer.org/
