An Enthusiastic Response Luke 8:6, 13 The second seed that was sown fell upon a rock. It quickly germinated, but because of inadequate depth needed to root, nourish, and establish the growth, no lasting fruit blossomed (vv.6, 13). Orchestrated, emotionally-packed conversions in which no clear, accurate presentation of the gospel is given and where the Holy Spirit is not allowed to do His work of conviction (Jn.16:7-11) produce far more statistics than transformed lives. This seed withered away due to one missing essential (v.6)-the moisture necessary for germination. In like manner, the Holy Spirit is responsible for illumining the lost sinner as to his need of the Savior and of the full, free, and perfect salvation offered through Jesus Christ. Just as moisture nurtures the seedling, the Spirit of God produces the spiritual fruit that will be generated in every true Christian. Remember, false professions abound in Christendom today; genuine conversion is achieved as the Holy Spirit convicts the lost through the proclamation of the Word. The Spirits fruit will always be in agreement with the Bible-taught walk. The believers life has no shortcuts to fruitfulness. Deep-rooted, spiritual conviction must be based upon a clear understanding of the truth if one is to withstand the temptation to give in to error and the assaults of the enemy (2 Tim.1:12-15). Spiritual convictions must be Bible-based and held fast by the power of the Holy Spirit of God. Anything less will surely fail, whether it relates to a pretended conversion or lasting fruit in the Christian walk (v.13 cf. Mk.4:17). Be sure that any passionate response to the Word is due to the Holy Spirits work and to not mans persuasive manipulation.
