An International Beach Recycling message from the Watamu Marine - TopicsExpress

An International Beach Recycling message from the Watamu Marine Association chair Steve Trott "Dear friends, colleagues and beach cleaning enthusiasts September 21st is International Coastal Cleanup dayThis event is supported by Ocean Conservancy who encourage beach cleanups around the world and collect data on the waste items collected. The data is used for research, education, conservation and lobbying purposes. WMA along with our marine debris recycling partner Ocean Sole Foundation are organising an East Africa beach cleanup. OSF will be mobilising conservation groups and schools in Tanzania and in Kenya we hope to target Kiunga, Lamu, Tana Delta, Malindi, Watamu, Kilifi, Kuruwitu, Vipingo, Mtwapa, Mombasa, Diani, Shimoni and Msambweni. The biggest challenge will be sorting the marine debris, filling in the data forms and removal and disposal. Which is why in each area we will need support with vehicles and volunteers. The attached data forms were designed for the Americas. We will be creating a second data form which will include our peculiar marine debris items such as flip flops and toothbrushes To assist us with coordination please confirm this coming week if your organisation will participate. Together let’s put Kenya and EA on the global beach cleanup map! oceanconservancy.org/our-work/international-coastal-cleanup/
