An Island-to-Island Bridge of Words One Tuesday 30th July at 5.30pm, Tivoli Gallery and Bookshop will be hosting the launch of a bilingual, Island-to-Island poetry collection. The collection is titled ‘ Islands: A metaphor Beyond Boundaries is published by the Jeju Island PEN Branch, South Korea and features Waiheke poets Alex Stone, Pita Rikys, Sue Fitchett and Tanya Batt. The anthology of poetry and prose is published in both Korean and English and also features writers from the Mauritius islands. The invitation for Waiheke poets to contribute to this collection came after Tanya Batt visited Jeju Island to story tell in International Korean schools. This was her second visit to this extraordinary South Korean Island. Her first visit to Jeju Island was on a bicycle and resulted in Tanya being rescued by the South Korean Army and meeting a poet on a bicycle. At the book launch Tanya will share a short photo documentary about Jeju Island and the story of how Waiheke and Jeju Islands became connected by a bridge of words.
