An October full moon just a day away and the first hint of cold in the air. A whisky by the fire and everything is almost perfect... The only thing missing is a ghost story. Fortunately, I have a stack of em right here. The trick is, its almost as tall as I am. No kidding, I asked for ghost stories and something must have been in the air because I received more submissions for The Ghost Papers than any anthology yet. By more, I mean hundreds and after the amazing response to The Good Fight and A Grimoire of Eldritch Inquests, it was a surprise to see a book about ghost stories top both of them. For The Good Fight, I decided to make it a mega-volume. For Grimoire, it had to be a double volume, no question. But for The Ghost Papers, neither of those options will work. I could pick the top stories, but that would leave out so many more amazing and weird stories. And for ghost stories, the weird ones are often the stories that stick with me. Ive wrestled with this for more than a month now, and was all but decided to do another mega-volume and announce a sequel. of course, I would need to let folks resubmit stories Ive already read and that made me wonder, whats the point of that? So the other day, I decided to do something else - something that I found exciting. I decided to make The Ghost Papers a quarterly feature through 2015, to be released in 4 volumes on the 13th of March, June, September and December. I love ghost stories and have a deep interest in presenting them. I am blown away and thrilled that so many writers also love them, and I just cant send out decline letters for stories that Id really rather publish. Now, that does present a logistical challenge as I still have a lot of choosing to do and there is a BIG difference between choosing for one book and choosing for four. Stories have to mesh together and books have to be cohesive. For that, I need a little more time to put volume I together. Ill announce the first stories for Volume I on November 13th, scheduled for publication on March 13th. On February 13th I will announce the stories for Volume II, to be released on June 13th. May 13th will be the announcement for Voume three, to be released on September 13th and August 13th will be the announcement for the December 13th release of Volume IV. I will be sending decline letters during this process, although none have been sent yet. I will also fully understand if an author needs an early decision or if they need to withdraw a story to place elsewhere. However, given the enthusiasm for the call, I wanted to be able to meet that with something fitting. Each of these volumes will appear in print as well as in ebook format. I will also have an eye on 2016 as we work through the year. As always, I thank all of the writers for their work and am more passionate than ever to present it.
