An Open Letter To The Nigerian Troops Fighting The Insurgents On behalf of patriotic Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, I wish to convey our appreciation to you for the wonderful work you’re doing on the battlefield in a bid to secure our sovereignty as a nation. We appreciate your dedication to service and your unwavering patriotism, despite our shortcomings as a nation. You are indeed true heroes of this nation. Let me assure you that the entire Nigerian nation is solidly behind you in this fight. Don’t pay any attention to those singing discordant tunes. They are the ones benefiting from the insurgency, either by supplying them with arms and ammunition or making money through negative reporting to their gullible readers. However, they are a tiny fraction and not a good representation of the good people of Nigeria who stand with you at all times. They are the disgruntled elements in our society who we have no choice but to put up with. Some of them have chosen partisanship over patriotism and wallow in deep bitterness of spirit as they see politics in everything. Some of them run their mouths through ignorance while others are just hell bent on destroying our nationhood by propagating falsehood. Don’t be demoralized by their stories. The insurgency is their means of livelihood and an end to it is an end to their trade. Your recent exploits in Konduga is a major victory and the length and breadth of our nation is celebrating your exploits with the chants of #VictoryForNigeria . We are proud of you all. We learned that some of you suffered injuries and some even died in the process. While praying for the quick recovery of the injured ones, we also pray for the repose of the souls of those who died. May God grant them eternal rest. Our prayers are with you always. Nothing will excite us more than to hear of your complete safety as you continue to deplete the ranks of the insurgents. Crush them, finish them, hammer them, destroy them, grind them, chase them, hunt them, kill them. We really don’t care how. Just do it. ‘Pikin wey say him mama no go sleep, him sef no go sleep’. 180 million Nigerians are solidly behind you and if it were possible, we’ll march to the front-lines with you just to show our solidarity. Our husbands support you. Our wives support you. Our children support you. Every time you see these hashtags on twitter–#SupportNGRMilitary and #VictoryForNigeria– know that it is a prayer for you and your loved ones back home, and our way of saying ‘THANK YOU”. You may have heard of the death sentences passed on some of your colleagues. Don’t let that discourage you. Nigerians are all speaking with one voice against their execution and we are absolutely sure that common sense will prevail. You have given your lives for us and we will never forget that. You have exhibited the true spirit of Naija, not minding our religious or ethnic differences. You have shown that indeed, #WeAreOneNigeria. May almighty God continue to protect you as you put yourselves on the line for our great nation. AWUA! God bless Nigeria! Paul Utho is on Twitter as @PaulUtho
