An Open Letter to Scott Lewis, Chairman of the Libertarian Party - TopicsExpress

An Open Letter to Scott Lewis, Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Louisiana June 24, 2014 Mr. Lewis, I wish to bring it to your attention that a significant number of Libertarians in Louisiana are dissatisfied with the direction the Party has taken since our joining its ranks. Because of this we are forming a campaign to elect one who represents our goals and values for the position of Chair of the State Central Committee in 2016. We will conduct ourselves in a transparent manner in our campaign against you as a possible incumbent or one of your political allies who seeks your position should you choose not to run for re-election. We do not plan to backstab, form coup attempts, oust you for where you do or do not live, nor engage in any of the back door deals you and your political allies have come to be noted for. In the meantime we are openly making known the reasons for our dissent. We object to disorderly meetings conducted counter to our bylaws by the Chair not setting and maintaining a proper agenda and due order in a meeting, as can be seen by anyone in reading the minutes of meetings of the State Central Committee. We object to the lack of communication between the Chair and the grass roots supporters of the Party. The people of this Party deserve better. We object to the disruption caused by state officials manipulating the actions of Parish Executive Committees. We hold to the autonomy granted to the PEC by state and national bylaws. We object to the disruptive manner by which issues are not discussed, goals not achieved, and liberty not attained through soap-opera-style distractions, insults against new or potential members of the Party, attempts at smear tactics, and other nuisance techniques to prevent us from attaining our stated goals. We object to the futile attempts to silence dissent within the Party. In defiance of this we openly, politically challenge the existing power structure by our dissenting faction. We object to the failed goals of the current administration. We hold you directly accountable to your promise to grow the Party by forming new parish committees and recruiting new members. We blame you for failing to achieve this goal. Over the past year, despite your empty promises of continued growth, we have had an average of only about one PEC formed every two months. Today we have only one PEC more than the count of January this year--an increase of only one parish in the past six months. Our membership increase is insignificant over the past year. In addition, many dissenters have left the Party because of harassment by those in power. We hold you directly accountable for the lack of support of candidates for public office that do not rank among your political allies in the Party. We hold you directly accountable for intentionally bringing national attention to a Louisiana election, then having the candidate obtain far less than 1% of the votes. His total number of votes barely exceeded party membership. As a result of this political catastrophe, candidates for office now receive no help nor attention except from individuals in the Party, not from the Party itself. We hold you directly accountable for failing miserably to recruit members of ethnic minorities into party membership. The Libertarian Party of Louisiana is almost as white in membership as a supremacist organization. How can we represent the people of America when we fail in membership to match the demographics of our nation? We hold you directly accountable for failing to provide leadership and for basically neglecting your duties for which you were elected. For this reason we will stand in defiant opposition to your policies for your remaining days in office. We will not merely complain, but work in setting real goals for when you leave office. And we will work to make certain that another like you does not replace you. Should you eventually care about the portion of the membership you have left behind in your protection of your political position over the good of the Party as a whole--should you have the decency to stand up for liberty and not politics as usual--then heed our words carefully. Consider our goals, which we will make well known in the upcoming days. They will come as no surprise--they are found in the platform of the Party. Remember the platform? Perhaps you can make adjustments to your attitude to be able to leave behind, in your final years in office, a legacy of liberty instead of the same sort of tyranny within our Party for which we are here to battle in public offices. We are tired of politics as usual. We are tired of the pointless bickering instigated by you through your allies. Instead, we will be setting concrete goals for liberty. Regards, Mark J. Richard
