An Open Letter to Toronto Councillor Pam McConnell Ward - TopicsExpress

An Open Letter to Toronto Councillor Pam McConnell Ward 28: Councillor McConnell: I am a resident and voter in your Ward. I am a lifelong Toronto resident, am a 58 year old male, and have lived downtown since 1979. My company is also in your Ward and we have a company boat, with a summer mooring at Toronto Island Marina. I support intelligent expansion of Billy Bishop Airport to better serve the needs of Torontonians and visitors to our city. I believe that many of your concerns that have caused you to oppose expansion are inconsequential. For example, noise will actually be reduced by having C series Jets and Q400 Turbo Props displace noisy piston powered polluting private aircraft (say that fast 5 times) to other airports. I am not concerned, as a boater, with slight adjustments to the marine exclusion zone. In my opinion the only valid concern is the need for better traffic handling in the Bathurst/Lakeshore corridor, along with improved transit service there. Metrolinx seems to be ignoring this issue. I realize there are limited resources available for transit and road improvements, but this is one situation where, due to the concentrated and relatively small area, the required spend will be manageable and benefits immediate. Why not push for action on this front? In summary, I am asking you to reconsider your position and to vote for an intelligent expansion of Billy Bishop. Thank you, Ron Shaw
