B Baton Rouge, LA 70806 I recently received a slick flyer in the mail urging me to telephone my state representative and thank him for having said NO to Obamacare. Disingenuous. Despite their best efforts, the martinet in the governors mansion and the rubber stamp legislature, did not and could not prevent the ACA from becoming the law in Louisiana. They did, however, say NO to 250,000 Louisianians without healthcare. The plight of the indigent has worsened after six years of Bobby Jindal and will continue to worsen in the years to come. Hospitals in the state must stabilize anyone who comes to an emergency room in need of treatment. The federal government has heavily subsidized this program. Since the adoption of the ACA, those subsidies have been reduced and will disappear altogether. The rationale: the working poor would now qualify for health insurance under an expanded Medicaid program. Only our Supreme Court, in its infinite wisdom, said that the states can opt out of an expanded Medicaid program. Louisianians usually opt for the worst solutions to endemic problems. Some of our U S Supreme Court Justices havent discovered, yet, that the Reconstruction Amendments gutted the 10th Amendment. Law is nothing but an illusion. So are the poor among us.
