An area of strong thunderstorms is moving across Fluvanna through 315 pm. At 222 pm, doppler radar indicated showers and thunderstorms with very heavy rain over Hardware, about 11 miles west of Fork Union, moving southeast at 20 mph. The strong thunderstorms will be near Cohasset at 245 pm, Bremo Bluff at 255 pm, Trenton mills at 310 pm. Hazards include: pea size hail, gusty winds of 30 to 40 mph, deadly cloud to ground lightning, heavy rainfall and minor flooding. If you see lightning or hear thunder, you are at risk. Take shelter indoors immediately. If you cannot find shelter in a building, a vehicle provides safety from lightning. These storms will produce heavy rainfall, which will cause minor flooding of low lying areas including ditches, creeks, roadways and areas of poor drainage. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded roads. Motorists should also reduce driving speeds to avoid hydroplaning.
