An article appeared recently saying that this year worshippers of Satan from the Satanic Temple will be allowed to put up a display in the Florida State Capitol building along with the other Christmas/holiday displays. It is being done under the guise of freedom of speech and religion. It will be there along with the myriad of other displays that have fought for the same right. It reminds me of the scene in the Bibles book of Acts, as the Apostle Paul entered the city of Athens: “While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols.” (Acts 17:16) Youll notice it says Paul was greatly distressed to see a city full of idols. Why? Because they were an assault by Satan on God. But as Ravi Zacharias says, “when a society embraces pluralization it will lead to a loss of reason.” The Devils great lie from the beginning of time is, “Did God really say” (Genesis 3:1).... Did God really say that we shouldnt do this or we shouldnt do that? Satan wants us to see Gods law as a restriction on us that holds us back from being truly happy, but as any good parent knows boundaries are put on their children in order to protect them and instill in them what is ultimately best for them. And Gods very first law is that we shall have no other gods before Him. That is why Paul was so distressed by the idols in Athens and it is why we should be distressed by the appearance of a Satanic holiday scene in the Florida Capitol building. Once again the devil is telling us God wants to restrict our freedoms, but it is man that has taken that concept and perverted it. As C.S. Lewis wrote, “I found myself caught in the spirit of the age, seeing myself as pure matter. But all of the sudden, Reason (Christ) came riding in on a horse and made me realize all of it was a lie.” (Pilgrims Regress). Its as if one day Lewis eyes were opened to Truth and it changed him forever. He realized that nature or freedom or science did not provide him with the answers he was looking for. My suspicion is, its the same reason that Stephen Hawking has been attending an evangelical church for several months now. It may be dawning on him that at the end of all the science and all his learning, the answers hes seeking will not come in the form of an equation... it will come in the form of a man. And that man will be Jesus Christ. As Peter said in 2 Peter 1: We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. So again today, I say to you, if you hear Gods voice do not harden your heart. Amen, hallelujah, praise the Lord!
