An average teacher tells but great teacher inspires: Taloh PASIGHAT, NOV 20 “A mediocre teacher tells but great teacher inspires” stated the Education Minister Tapang Taloh while addressing the teaching community in the state’s oldest IGJ Hr. Secondary School auditorium this evening. Quoting “Good teacher explains, superior demonstrates but the great inspires hope, ignites the imagination and instills a love of learning with effective teaching skill and strategies” the minister stated. Elaborating government’s zero tolerance policy in education sector Taloh said “Quality education will determine the future of state and being the captain of the department I cannot compromise.” Giving a defensive statement regarding the recent reshuffle of teachers across the state, Taloh reiterated that surplus teachers would be withdrawn to equip all schools with sufficient numbers of teachers in the state. High court’s stay order may give temporarily relief to the transferees but hampers careers of thousands of students. As permanent members of the department, they should realize their role and responsibilities and work with more dedication to take the society forward with proper reformation, suggested the minister. He informed that the decision of rationalization had come across over several layers of screening committees. First, the issue was debated and accepted in the state legislative assembly by MLAs. Secondly, it was passed by the cabinet to streamline the dismal education scenario and in third layer, ZPMs, senior citizens and various NGOs in a joint coordination meeting, held on last 20th June had suggested for strict implementation. Moreover, the Education and Chief Secretaries in Project Approval Board (PAB) meeting held on 23th May gave undertaking jointly to fulfill the norms of rationalization framed by the Union Ministry of HRD, New Delhi so that no school would be left out without posting of teachers and central financial supports not hampered. For East Siang district in particular, Taloh asserted that before taking the decision, a consultative meeting was convened which was attended by officers of the department and ZPMs. Unfortunately teachers of the district opposed towards the move. They should have thought about the welfare of thousands of our children who were waiting for long for teachers’ attendance in their respective schools, located in remote areas or in the other districts like Upper Subansiri, Anjaw, East Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Tirap, Changlang etc. However, overwhelming response and supports have been received so far across the state and being the minister of the department he would do his best to honor the responsibility entrusted upon him by the people to bring radical change in the society and eradicate students’ sufferings. “Rationalization generated hope among the citizens of state and I would do right thing in right time to achieve the success,” Taloh affirmed. “Teachers are not mare employees but producers of doctors, engineers, teachers, bureaucrats, lawyers, professors, scientists and all productive members of society to lead the country towards prosperity. Children learn from their teachers at a young age, mostly stay with them for the rest of their lives. The present government is working for welfare of the teachers and under my leadership, officers are working restlessly to promote all category teachers- based on their qualities and performance reports,” disclosed the minister before concluding his hour-long speech. Retired educationist turned politician and Nari-Koyu MLA Kento Rina sharing his views said teachers are like beacons of light, who guide the children in the formative years of their life. The step taken by education minister is appreciable and should be supported by one and all. Earlier, the East Siang Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Srivastava in her deliberation stated that fight for rights were always good but teachers need to realize their responsibilities and work with more dedication to raising the standard of literacy. The meeting was attended by the Ruchika Katyal IAS (Probationer), ZPC Kaling Dai, Chief Councillor (PMC) Denong Tamuk, DDSE Tani Talom, DDs of School and Elementary Education, ATA State President Tarh Yaku, councilors, ZPMs, principals, headmasters and teachers.
