The garden center for whom I design also employs a megalomaniacal construction foreman who lacks any aesthetic sense but claims to hold the answers to all of lifes mysteries. He fights me at every turn, squaring off curves that I design in order to reduce the number of brick cuts. He will often bring back plants, claiming that he has no room to plant them in the proposed area. I generally dont say anything unless his change is critically detrimental to my vision, if you will. He has finally crossed the line, however. I designed a landscape which includes a new porch and patio, as well as fencing, lighting and planting for a woman of modest means who has saved for years to do a nice landscape. For twenty thousand dollars, I am trying to give her her moneys worth, but this asshole is doing his level best to make me look bad. He forgot to run the wire for the lighting, and then told me that he cant do it since she has no electricity outside, knowing full well that he needed to install a transformer in the basement and drill a hole through the foundation. It took him twice as long as it should have to build the patio because of my design flaws. He refused to plant two important trees because he had supposedly had no room. The job is nearly finished and I told him today that I would stop there on my way home to draw him a diagram for the flower planting. The glimmer in his eye raised my suspicions, and sure enough, when I got there, i found that he had turned half the flower beds into lawn. Starting tomorrow, he is going to discover the definition of prima donna, when he discovers he has awakened a designer who has suddenly become unhappy with plant placement and requires him to move the random plant 6 inches to the left. No, now that I see it, youd better move it forward a little. Thats better, but I think we need to rotate it a bit.
