An email from UCONN Avery Points Director, The Department of Public Health has delivered a new shipment of potassium iodide(KI)tablets to distribute to the Avery Point Campus! They are available at the Welcome Center in the Branford House m-f 8:30-4:30. These are for individuals, departments, buildings or centers on campus. I also have a supply for students living in apartments off campus! Potassium Iodide, also known by its chemical name KI, has been distributed to residents and workers in the approximate 10 mile Emergency Planning Zone around Millstone Power Station in Waterford, CT to enhance Connecticut’s Radiological Emergency Response Plan. KI alone does not protect you for radiation exposure. KI is meant to supplement evacuation or sheltering. Taking KI saturates the human thyroid gland with stable non-radioactive iodine. KI provides protection to the thyroid for 24 hours. Jusssstttt in case.
