An email from one of our listeners. Any idea what this movie could be? "I’m looking for a movie I saw years ago. I think it was made in the 1990s or early 2000s. I think it’s a Chinese movie, but it’s definitely an Asian movie. The color in it was very saturated. As best I can remember, the plot concerned an author whose works were banned, possibly due to the cultural revolution. He begins to see characters and scenes from his stories. One memorable scene is a night scene of a man running along a street wearing a long robe. He is backlit by a bright white light. One of the stories concerns a young woman who is being held captive in an isolated house by a rich, cruel man, maybe her husband. This man rides a beautiful white horse every day, whipping it so that it runs rapidly toward the edge of a sheer cliff over the sea. He torments it by only allowing it to a stop at the very last second. The horse is terrorized over and over by this. The woman learns there is a plant in the field that will drive the horse mad, and she makes sure the plant is in the horse’s food. The next time the man rides the horse across the field to the cliff the horse just keeps on going and they both fall into the sea. There is another scene in the movie where a woman is preparing to commit suicide, and the author tries to stop her. That is all I remember. I do hope someone can help me find this movie as it is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. Thanks for your efforts!"
