An eminent scientist and friend of mine, Howard Smith, Director of Pain Medicine, Medical Cente,r Albany, NY, Editor of Pain Physician, passed away in may 2013. Great sadness. I had the pleasure to work with him and now his memory will be honoured by the finalization of the book he was preparing before dying. It is going to be published by AME publishing company, USA. Two articles, by Sebastiano Mercadante, are included in this book: Controlled sedation for refractory symptoms in dying patients Opioid-related adverse effects.
