An excellent day for us yesterday (15th June 2013), we took to the streets again for our ‘Highlighting tax avoidance to combat the bedroom tax’ action. For the first time locally we made use of props. We took a van with ‘UK Uncut Removals’ signs on it and parked it right outside the doors of perpetual tax avoider Vodafone. A bed and various banners were unloaded the focal point of the a jubilant protest. Although there were no plans to enter Vodafone, they chose to lock the doors and turn away their own customers. The action was well received by busy shoppers, with many stopping and speaking with us wanting more information. And we kept Vodafone shut for over 2 hours and gave away more than 200 leaflets about tax avoidance and the unfair bedroom tax. Our next action will be announced soon, where we will be out for another day of family-friendly, creative direct action. Until then we hope to see as many of you as possible at either Bournemouth or Poole Council’s on Tuesday 18th June from 6pm for a lobby of the council’s calling on them to guarantee no evictions for those facing the bedroom tax. See you on the streets again soon.
