An exceptional collection of four short essays that account for the personal experiences of various highly respected mathematicians (Sir Michael Atiyah, Alain Connes, Dusa McDuff, and Peter Sarnak) and their relationship with mathematics. The first essay, written by Sir Michael Atiyah, provides an enthusiastic overview on the art of doing mathematics. He touches base on topics such as motivation, psychology, the problem vs theory dichotomy, proof, and approach. I highly recommend this collection for any aspiring mathematician. Even if one does not implement the techniques discussed, one can at least acknowledge, consider, and learn.
