An exerpt from The Forever Man- The room was faint. A slight discoloration of grey or blue. As he was sitting on the bed in the middle of the room looking out at the rain Alice was standing in the open doorway, arms crossed, not making a sound, watching. Its the same. he said. The prison didnt stop. I thought... What? she replied That she and I could become closer. No. Were separted by a piece of glass. She sat on the bed next to him. Glass? she said. Your son, hell die someday wont he? Only if he lives a good life and one day when hes old. she said thinking outloud. Thats it. Your mother cant get past that either. Shes afraid that when she dies, Ill be heartbroken. I want take care of her. I have all the time in my hands and Im not allowed to hold her. She turned the head and looked at him directly. I still have a hard time believing that you are some perfect human being. I just cant wrap my mind around that. Im not perfect. I just am. he said.
