An exert from my auto biography Ive been working on; read if youd like. It will be a little bit of a long read, so feel free to skip over it! I received a macbook pro for christmas during my senior year in highschool. Now, putting aside the Mac vs PC battle (for all my tech savvy friends) this was the first tool that enabled me to start pursuing my musical dreams. Looking back to some of the very first apps I downloaded to start DJing, I can only smile and laugh at some of my experiences. I’ve come an extremely long way from when I first started pursuing my dreams, and I can honestly say that I am extremely proud of myself. The very first app I had ever downloaded regarding DJing was Virtual DJ, for my iPod. I was stoked to start my journey to become the world’s greatest DJ! I remember hopping on the bus on the morning I downloaded the app. I excitedly plugged in my headphones, then quickly selected two songs for deck A and deck B. I had no idea what was about to happen, but I was sure that even our creator would be impressed! I pressed play on the first deck, then pressed play on the second deck...and then my dreams shattered. I remember thinking to myself “I’m never going to be a DJ!!” The music (horribly train-wrecked) sounded terrible; at the time I had no clue what it really meant to DJ. I thought all you had to do was press play! In that moment, I realized how mistaken I really was. In hindsight, this is probably one of the funniest memories I’ve ever had. Even though my heart and soul were crushed (thankfully in a private moment no one else heard) it didn’t take me long to continue my journey to learn how to spin music!
