An interesting article by one of todays foremost researchers in Mathematics(specifically, the Langlands Programme), Edward Frenkel..... Eugene Wigner once asked a question as to why mathematics is so unreasonably effective in physics. According to the authors view, a platonic view of mathematical truths(and consequently, theoretical physics) might be accounted for by the hypothesis that our universe is actually a very complex computer programme. The Matrix, anyone? :3 Actually, its not sheer lunacy, Im told; there is work being done on this by some physicists[Im not too sure if its mainstream or not]. Max Tegmark has similar views; that the universe is isomorphic to some mathematical structure. As always, such theories have been the province of philosophers too.
