An interesting article which is well worth a read, from the Cowra Guardian in regard to an expected increase in freight haulage. Whilst the article is specific to the Central West region, there are points from it which are relevant to freight haulage across regional New South Wales. Here are some interesting points from the article, relevant to rail transport: The study, commissioned by Regional Development Australia Central West, also indicates freight will double state-wide by 2034. Putting more freight onto rail will not only reduce the pressure on local and rural roads, it will make the option more competitive and reduce costs for customers. In the case of rail, addressing the reasons for rail being less competitive than road freight must be a top priority for government. The New England region simply cannot afford to allow the Great Northern Railway to be dismantled, we need it! Thanks to Lyle for the heads up on this article. :-)
