An interesting piece for higher level language students. Australian states have just finished Daylight Savings (DS). Dr Karl explains how DS can affect our health. After taking and comparing notes, possible discussion questions on DS are: Why is DS less relevant near the equator? Why do Queensland and Western Australia have a bigger problem deciding whether to implement DS? What were the reasons for implementing DS during WW2? What are the main arguments for and against DS now? Who are the two main groups of people that have problems with DS, and why? Research Discussion: Where were the two studies held and how were their designs different? According to these two studies, what two main health dangers come from DS? According to wider studies, what days and times are riskiest for mistakes? How do the roll-in and roll-out periods compare? What were the two example major accidents mentioned? Wider Discussion: What are your thoughts on DS? Should large states be split for DS? Do you think modern societies are sleep-deprived? Have you experienced an accident or near accident while you were sleep-deprived or very tired?
