An interesting read. As a PhD student, I fully admit that my undergraduate grades were not at the level they could have been. However, this did not and does not translate to my work and performance in higher education. Although Western education heavily relies on grading, Im grateful for a system that does not only rely on grades for pursuing higher ed. With that said, it should be noted that Ive applied multiple times and have been denied national funding (NSERC), despite my impressive research/publication record; something that I feel can be (at least) partially attributed to a mediocre undergraduate performance (as measured by grades).
