An interesting set of visible satellite images of ice coverage on the Lower Great Lakes. The first picture (on left) is an image from today (Apr 6) that shows broken ice over the eastern basin of Lake Erie with more solid ice near Buffalo. Also note some leftover ice near the St Lawrence River on the far northeast end of Lake Ontario. For comparison, the second image (on right) was taken back on Feb 12. Note the SOLID ice coverage on Lake Erie while a strip of pack ice that broke free from the south shore of Lake Ontario is shown several miles off shore with an area of solid ice near the St Lawrence River. In both images, Oneida Lake is ice covered.
