An interesting subject raised by my friend Ahmed Barbour is the Emotional Intelligence (EI) introduced by Daniel Goleman In general, Psychologists (I worked with some for years on a Human Technology Interaction) rely on statistical methods, unlike Neurologists who employ more scientific methodology. On the topic itself, neither emotion nor intelligences have scientifically sound definitions. However, they can be assessed by some criteria. For emotions, lower primitive parts of the brain are responsible, while intelligence, as assessed today, is contributed to higher intellectual brain processes.
