An island of earth juts out into a cattail marsh, surrounded by rat houses at various distances away. Walking the top of that ground last week with skim ice in the morning showed bubble run trails coming from the marsh in several different lanes that converged to one main channel. If we could use colony traps here in NY, one cage there would suffice. But we cannot, so I placed three #160s in pinch points instead. first check next day = three rats. Second day = three rats. Third day = two rats and an untouched trap. Three trap checks, eight muskrats... all of them swimming IN from the cattail marsh to the bank den. That tells us they werent living in this hole, they are using it for shelter to feed in community kitchen fashion. feeder den bank holes. Money :)
