An oil and gas exploration company is trying to bring Fracking to heavily populated St. Tammany Parish. The location for the first wells is south of Abita Springs, northeast of Mandeville and east of Louisiana Highway 1088. This is within a mile of subdivisions. Because of the severance tax exemption on minerals extracted using tracking, little or no benefits will accrue to the communities or the State. What residents will get is exposure to methane gas releases, a serious drawdown of the water table, and possible pollution of the aquifer that not only provides drinking water for the quarter of a million people living in St. Tammany Parish, but also serves as the source of water for businesses like Abita Beer. There is no need (other than greed) for this drilling activity to get started so near residential areas. Ive signed this petition. I urge you to consider signing it as well.
