An older study, but new to me. I have noticed this in myself. I scored 80/80 on the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Assessment, and I scored in the upper 99th percentile on the Mayer-Salovey Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test, but each test tapped into something differently than the other. I doubt I would do as well on both if I took them at the same testing session. Ive also noticed years ago that I *definitely* have emotional triggers that can turn off my critical-thinking powers. Conversely, when Im in logical mode I can answer peoples questions matter-of-factly but cant anticipate the big picture or why they are mentioning what it is they bring up. For example, someone recently asked me if someone else blocked them. I got in analytical mode and did some investigating to see what all the possibilities could be, and then reported back with,Almost certainly. It took someone else to point out that the reason they asked that is because they were not happy about it. I totally missed that. Have you noticed this either/or situation in yourself, or are you one of those folks who usually has a lot (or small amount) of empathy and reasoning going on simultaneously? sciencedaily/releases/2012/10/121030161416.htm
