An open letter to the decision makers of IILM School of Design/Higher Education, Gurgaon A few days back, we received an email saying that your convocation is happening, send in the confirmations. To be honest! I was really excited! That oh my god it is happening finally after 2 years! Confirmations were sent, no one from IILM replied after that! Any ay, we ignored it and started preparing for the convocation, a few people from my batch who stay out of station got their tickets booked, the ones who were working decided to take an off, our parents postponed their conferences and meetings, many of us cancelled our weekend getaway plans and the list is endless. Then finally over FACEBOOK, we were informed that convocation is happening for sure and the dress code was decided right there! Please keep in mind it all happened over FACEBOOK! We continued to ignore it since we spent 4 years of our lives, the most crucial 4 years of anyone’s life, at IILM, we were all positive about it! Just extremely happy that okay we do deserve convocation if nothing else. Telling the whole world that how awesome IILM design has been despite of the ups and downs, the strikes and all the mess that it was. Despite of the fact that we were given ZERO design facilities, faculty members came, and left, deans came and left, A junior design assistant was called to judge the GRADUATION PROJECT, DESPITE OF ALL OF THAT, we still were hoping for the convocation, the graduation ceremony to happen. Its common knowledge that its every student’s dream, more than that a basic right to wear that hat, a parent’s wish to see their kids graduating, and just that feeling of standing up there and holding that degree in the hand. And while we were still dreaming and wondering about it, BOOM! It was informed to us over FACEBOOK, that it’s not happening or may be getting postponed because we don’t have a chief guest! LOL really! I was like its better to have no chief guest than having some junior assistant like the one who came for the jury, so yeah cool, I am glad there is no chief guest but at least let the ceremony happen!!! Please note that we still did not receive a formal email about that. There was anger, frustration, a lot of irritation was there, amongst all of us, once again we were let down by our institute. All the communication that was supposed to happen formally was just happening over facebook, until one of us called the concerned faculty member. Following was sent to us: Dear all, Due to some operational reasons we have to postpone this Convocation Ceremony, which was scheduled on 5th of Sept 14 for batch 2009-13 and 2010-14. New date will be soon conveyed to all of you. we deeply regret the inconvenience caused……… Last line made me laugh really hard because I really don’t know when was the last time management really regretted their decisions when it comes to school of design. IILM Design has had some of the best faculty members, deans and students, with enough potential to beat any other renowned design college, but It makes me feel deeply saddened that Such great talent and expertise was never appreciated in a place like IILM. Its just sad that how something like education is also being sold in institutes like these. Kindly send us the degrees to our respective addresses, I hope college will have the budget to sponsor the courier fee. I deeply regret my decision of being a part of this institution.
